In His Hands
Sitting in the break room at church on a recent Wednesday night, Wade and I were waiting for a couple we were meeting to arrive. He had walked down the hall and was talking with someone, so I was alone perusing Instagram.
Soon I heard a children’s class down the hall start singing a familiar song from my childhood that brought a soft smile to my face, “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands.”
Their small, innocent voices sang these simple lines that when you comprehend their meaning, are so profound, comforting, and full of truth. To a child and even to some adults who don’t THINK about the words, the song sounds too simple.
“He’s got the whole world in His hands.
He’s got the whole world in His hands.
He’s got the whole world in His hands.
He’s got the whole world in His hands.”
A repeated phrase that if we would understand within our hearts and make our daily decree, then undoubtedly, our outlook on circumstances would change.
He’s got the whole world? Where? In His hands.
The Almighty God of the universe. The Almighty God of the universe Who loves us more than we can fathom. We, as Christians, are in His hands.
Is there any safer place to be?
God’s hands. Jesus’ hands. They are strong hands. Saving hands. Healing hands. Nail-scarred hands. Loving hands. Hands that hold us always as His children. We are safe AND saved forever and in His hands.
I am reminded of another song I have sung my whole life in church that describes these same truths…
“How firm a foundation, you saints of the Lord,
is laid for your faith in his excellent Word!
What more can he say than to you he has said,
to you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?Fear not, I am with you, O be not dismayed;
for I am your God, and will still give you aid;
I’ll strengthen you, help you, and cause you to stand,
upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose,
How Firm a Foundation, 1787 by John Rippon
I will not, I will not desert to his foes;
that soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no never, no never forsake.”
Let us not try to take things into our own hands. Let us not attempt to do this life on our own. Let us rest in His omnipotent – all powerful – hand.
After all, He’s got the whole world in His hands. 💕

I have so often thought some of the most important things we ever needed to know about the Lord have come from songs we learned as children:
He’s still working on me
Jesus loves the little children
Down in my heart
The wise man built his house
Oh there’s so many. Thank you for the sweet reminder even when it seems society is spinning out of control, He’s got the whole world in His hands. We can rest easy. Love you friend!!
